The main disadvantages of microfilm has been speed and cost of retrieval and that it is difficult to integrate into a modern image/database retrieval system. This is why many organisations are choosing to migrate their microfilm libraries to scanned images.
At Quantor we recognise the strengths and weaknesses of the medium and have developed our services to provide cost effective solutions to combine microfilm with a modern retrieval system.
Converting your microfilm library.
Whatever format of microfilm you have we can scan the film and provide images for uploading into the retrieval system of your choice, just as if they were the original documents. Click for a case study of microfilm scanning.
Scan on demand service.
This service has been designed to help those people who may have large microfilm libraries but the level of access is low and infrequent. Rather than maintain the specialist equipment required for the access of the microfilm, Quantor holds the microfilm library on your behalf and requests for images can be made via email, fax or telephone. When the request is received the correct pages of film are identified, scanned and returned via email.
Integrated document and microfilm scanning.
Even now there are many organisations that create large volumes of paper as part of their business process and this information needs to be kept. In situations like this we frequently recommend that the paper archive records that are over twelve months old are microfilmed and that new material is scanned and added to the image database. A copy of the microfilms is held at Quantor and the Search and View database holds a record of the documents that have been microfilmed. When a user requires one of these documents they are automatically prompted to send an email to Quantor requesting the document, which is then found and returned.
